Closing arguments heard in Myers murder trial

It has been an emotional two weeks in the Dystiny Myers murder trial. The prosecution and defense presented their closing arguments Thursday and the defense asked for a mistrial which was denied by the judge. Now the jury will decide the fate of Rhonda Wisto and Jacob York.

The jury has heard testimony from 40 people and will have more than 200 pieces of evidence to go through.

The prosecution says it should have no problems finding both defendants guilty.

In the prosecution’s closing argument it leaned heavily on testimony from Jason Greenwell and letters written in jail from York and Wisto. It showed evidence of York admitting to being involved in her death.

The evidence presented against Wisto was a little different. The prosecution painted her as the ring leader in how she made the decisions that led up to Myers’ death.

“Greenwell tells you at that point, Jacob York told his mom he didn’t want to do it. Jason Greenwell didn’t make that up. He said that York didn’t want to do it. Jason Greenwell said that Rhonda Wisto said sometimes things just have to happen,” said Prosecutor Tim Covello.

Wisto’s attorney closed by stating Jason Greenwell is a serial liar and everything he said is not true. “If you believe that Jason Greenwell is telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, if that is what he is doing, if that’s your finding, then you should find my client guilty when it’s all said and done,” said Michael Cummens, Wisto’s attorney.

He stated that Wisto’s DNA and fingerprints were not found anywhere.

York’s attorney argued that his client was too intoxicated on meth to form any intent so he should not be found guilty of all charges.

The jury began deliberations just after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
