Blighted Wagon Wheel area on road to improvement
Oxnard’s blighted Wagon Wheel area is now on the road to improvement.
Plans hit a speed bump when Governor Jerry Brown shut down redevelopment agencies. But that didn’t stop developers from creating Oxnard CRLF Partners, LLC.
The partners include some colorful characters including the Forrest Lucas, the CEO of Lucas Oil Products, and Carl Renezeder, an off-road race car driver and home builder.
At a groundbreaking event in Oxnard Wednesday, Lucas said he once stayed at the old Wagon Wheel Motel when he was a young truck driver.
They have 63 acres to build on. Wagon Wheel Family Apartments will be the first development It will include 120 low-income units. Residents of Wagon Wheel Trailer Lodge have the option of leaving the site or moving into one of the apartments when the complex is completed in the summer of 2014.
