13-year-old leads deputies on high speed chase

A 13-year-old driver led Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speedpursuit that ended in a crash.

Deputies received a call just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Department says speeds hit 100 mph on Highway 246 through Solvang and came to an end when the driver lost control near Armour Ranch road in Santa Ynez.

A 51-year-old female passenger was also in the car. No injures were reported. Both the passenger and 13-year-old driver were taken into custody. Their relationship is not currently know and is under investigation.

Sheriff’s deputies tell NewsChannel 3 the car involved, a 2004 Nissan Remada, was stolen from Morro Bay.

The teen is from Arroyo Grande and ran away from home. He has been booked in juvenile hall and is facing several felony charges.

The case remains under investigation.
