San Marcos making rare quarterfinal appearance in boys basketball

San Marcos High School was founded in 1959 and this year’s boys basketball team is one of just five squads in school history to make it to the CIF quarterfinals. The Royals will play at Corona Del Mar on Tuesday in the CIF Division 3AA.

The Royals opened the playoffs with a 60-51 home win against Palos Verdes and followed that up with a 49-42 victory at El Dorado. San Marcos has actually played better on the road this year than at home.

Despite being a perennial playoff team, the Royals have had trouble getting out of the second round but not this season behind a senior-led team.
