Man falls off cliff trying to take picture

A man was taken to the hospital after he fell off a cliff and onto Hendry’s Beach on Monday afternoon.

A man and his friend were walking along the beach and decided to climb up the cliff below the Douglas Family Preserve.

The two were trying to take a picture and made it up about 20 feet on the cliff. Once that far, one of the men tried to get down but couldn’t and ended up falling.

Santa Barbara City Firefighters, a park ranger and AMR got the man and brought him back to the beach entrance about a half mile away.

“He was laying on the ground on his back when we got there in obvious pain, kind of quite,” said Capt. Chris Auringer.

The initial call said the man was unresponsive but when first responders arrived, he was conscious but could not stand up.

He was taken to Cottage Hospital for possible neck injuries.
