Probation lifted at community colleges

After a year on probation, community colleges in Ventura County are making the grade.

Last February, an accreditation commission found faults with the college district board and put all three campuses in Ventura, Oxnard and Moorpark on probation.

The commission also issued a warning to Oxnard and Ventura colleges for failing to outline student expectations in certain courses.

The board, along with faculty and staff, focused on making improvements that worked. Last night, they got word they were back in good standing.

Educators say accreditation allows students to transfer their credits to four-year universities. It also makes students eligible for federal financial aid.
