UPDATE: Charred body found in cabin believed to be Christopher Dorner

UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting that a California driver’s license found in the rubble of that burned-out cabin near Big Bear belongs to Christopher Dorner.

Late Tuesday night, San Bernardino Sheriff’s officials confirmed the discovery of charred human remains within the debris of the cabin.

If Christopher Dorner is positively identified, it would bring an end to a massive manhunt for the former LAPD officer, accused of killing four people.

According to law enforcement, Dorner never came out of the cabin once barricading himself inside. A single gun-shot was heard inside before the home was engulfed in flames.

Police say the suspect was involved in a shootout with deputies. One of the deputies was killed, another wounded. There was no further information on their identities. This is Dorner’s fourth alleged victim.

The incident started around noon Tuesday, when Dorner was reportedly spotted in a stolen vehicle in the San Bernardino mountains, several miles from where his burned-out truck was found. Authorities say he first held two women hostage in their home. A police chase ensued, until Dorner fled on foot into the forest. That’s when he barricaded himself inside a cabin. No details have been provided as to what started the fire inside the cabin.

Authorities remain on tactical alert, as they fully investigate.
