An open seat on the Santa Maria City Council will be filled by an appointment.
The deadline to apply is Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Santa Maria City Hall.
The council seat is open because Alice Patino won the mayor’s election last November. She was seated as a council member at the time. Now the position is open.
The remaining term for this seat is two years.
To serve on the council you have to be 18 years old, a city resident, and a registered voter.
The position pays just over $1000 a month.
