One person dead in semitruck roll over near Highway 154
Emergency crews responded to a private road off Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley this morning when a semitruck carrying rocks rolled over. The driver was ejected and died at the scene.
It happened at the Bee Rock Quarry near Cachuma Lake and Bradbury Dam. The truck was coming down a paved road, with a full local of rocks at the time
“For unknown reasons it went off the roadway, rolled over and the driver was ejected from the vehicle,” said Santa Barbara County Fire Captain David Sadecki. “We were unable to revive the driver.”
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Don Clotworthy says the CHP investigation will look into the medical condition of the driver and also the maintenance of the truck. “The impact was pretty severe,” said Clotworthy at the scene. “This wasn’t on Highway 154 but it’s important we do a complete investigation,” he said. The truck was about three quarters of a mile away from the highway and was going to enter the roadway at San Marcos Pass. The CHP says the truck belonged to Johnson Excavation in the valley.
