UCSB Outlasts Cal Poly in Double-OT Thunderdome Thriller

Kyle Boswell scored six points in the final 1:06 of the second overtime as UCSB edged Cal Poly 83-81 in Big West men’s college basketball. Down 79-77 in double overtime, Boswell was fouled on a three-point attempt. The junior made all three free throws to put the Gauchos up one. Cal Poly reclaimed the lead on a lay-up by Drake U’u with 30 seconds to go. But down 81-80, Boswell went into the lane with 12 seconds left and made a lay-up in heavy traffic and he was fouled. Boswell, who tied his career-high of 23 points, sank the free throw and when Chris Eversley’s last second shot fell short, UCSB celebrated their 11th win over Cal Poly in their last 12 meetings. Both teams are now 3-3 in the Big West. Even with the win the Gauchos are holding their breath. Leading scorer and rebound Al Williams left the game late in the first half after injuring his hamstring and did not return. The Gauchos will know the extent of the injury in the next day or so but it did not appear to be a major injury. Cal Poly was led by Reese Morgan who had a game and career high 26 points as he made seven three-pointers.
