Search and Rescue 2012 Callouts

Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue says its 38 team members responded to a total of 138 callouts in 2012. This year’s callouts included the Lookout Fire evacuation and a firefighter rescue following the evacuation of 100 homes at Painted Cave Road. Search and Rescue crews taught 37 individuals in swiftwater and rope rescue techniques in Machu Picchu, Peru. The team welcomed Copter 3 to its six helicopter fleet. The rescue team’s Australian Shepherd Kody passed away. He served for 10 years and participated in over one hundred searches. Also in 2012 it celebrated 50 years of saving lives with a two-day celebration.
