McDonald’s in Santa Barbara to Celebrate Creator of Egg McMuffin
SANTA BARBARA – All six McDonald’s restaurants in Santa Barbara will celebrate the local creator of the Egg McMuffin Monday, with one dollar breakfast sandwiches.Herb Peterson passed away six years ago, but his culinary legendary lives on. Peterson’s son David, the current owner and operator of the local McDonald’s, says at the time, the suggestion of serving up breakfast was a “radical” idea. “McDonald’s didn’t open doors til 11:00 so to serve a breakfast item threw them off!” Peterson explained. He also claims breakfast now accounts for 33% of all of the fast food chain’s business. And that helped put Santa Barbara on the menu map, worldwide. For example, a group traveled here from China during the 90’s to see how to run a golden arches franchise, first hand. China now boasts more than 1,000 McDonald’s restaurants. These are just some of the milestones documented in ‘The Good Egg,’ a book the younger Peterson dedicated to his father.
