Illegal Massages
The Ventura City Council will get an update tonight on the Ventura Police Department’s crack down on massage parlors suspected of breaking the law.Ventura has 65 licenses for massage businesses.That is three times as many as those found in Oxnard, Simi Valley or Thousand Oaks.Undercover officers arrested three people in a midtown sting in October.But they don’t have enough resources to do stings every week.The Chief of Police says the Ventura City Council will learn more about the problem tonight.Ken Corney says the workers could be victims of human trafficking and forced prostitution.Massage therapists must be licensed by the state.Massage businesses in Ventura must close by 10p.m. Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
