After a slow start San Marcos heated up in the third quarter and went on to beat host Carpinteria 49-40 in round one action of the Jim Bashore Holiday Cage Classic. Tied at 18 at the half, both teams ramped up their offense in the third quarter that saw the Royals take a 39-33 lead. San Marcos expanded their lead to 44-35 in the fourth quarter before holding off the Warriors. No player scored in double-figures for either team. San Marcos plays Channel Islands on Saturday at 4pm while Carpinteria meets Orcutt at 7pm.
