Seabees Rescue Capsized Sailor

Seabees from Naval Base Ventura County rescued a man clinging to his boat.It happened on Friday afternoon when Seabees on board a vessel named “Diane G” were returning from a San Nicolas Island Maintenance Mission.They spotted debris and followed it to a man hanging onto a capsized boat about ten miles from the Port of Hueneme.They used an inflatable boat to rescue Ivan Jureczky.After the 60 year old was treated for hypothermia he said his 15 foot sailboat overturned near Channel Islands Harbor.Jureczky was adrift for about 5 hours without a radio.Relatives did not report him missing because he wasn’t expected back until later that evening.Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
