Santa Barbara County Child Molester Killed in Prison

A homicide investigation is underway at Corcoran Prison after a convicted child molester from Santa Maria was murdered in his cell.Prison officials say 67-year-old Gary Townsend Boyd was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday with a head injury. Another inmate is now sequestered, accused of killing him.The Santa Maria man was serving a 72-year sentence for molesting a 4-year-old girl over a long period. At the time of that crime, Boyd was a registered sex offender convicted of sexually assaulting another child in 1984.Boyd was living on N. Miller St. at the time of his arrest, nearly five years ago.
