On the Eve of La Fiesta Pequea
Santa Barbara- On the eve of Old Spanish Day’s grand opening ceremony, La Fiesta Pequea, hundreds of crews, merchants and dancers around Santa Barbara are putting on the last minute touches to this year’s Fiesta preparations. Many gathered in front of the steps of the Old Mission, in a tradition some call a local’s secret. They came out the night before the official kick off, to watch the dress rehearsal for Wednesday night’s La Fiesta Pequena. El Presidente Ricardo Castellanos says they received more funding this year compared to previous years, with the generous donations of two diamond sponsors. Over at De La Guerra Plaza, crews and vendors are working around the clock to prepare for tomorrow. From local bands like False Puppet and Bad Jack, to flamenco dancers, the plaza’s stage will soon be lit The 23 food vendors and roughly 40 merchants will have something for everyone. La Fiesta Pequena kicks off Wednesday night at 8pm and will be broadcast live on KEYT. The mercados over at De La Guerra plaza open up at 11am until 11pm. It’s free to the public.
