NBVC Seeks BAMS Command
Ventura County’s top employer could add more high tech civilian jobs.Representative Elton Gallegly is working with the Navy, Colleagues and base supporters to make Naval Base Ventura County the home base for BAMS. BAMS stands for, “Broad Area Maritime Surveillance.”Most people call them drones or unmanned aerial vehicles.But the new Public Affairs Officer at the base says that is,, ” old school.”Kimberley Gearhart says BAMS will do.The idea to base BAMS at Pt. Mugu made it through a House Armed Services Committee and is now included in a National Defense Authorization Act that need House and Senate approval.Unlike NBVC two other California bases in the running are landlocked. They include Beal Air Force Base in Yuba and Lemoore Naval Air Station in Lemoore.BAMS known for safety and saving money were tested in Ventura County so the command may be considered a good fit.
