Man Mysteriously Disappears After Crash

The family of a man missing for five days near Solvang is holding on to hope that he’ll be found alive. The family talked with KEY News today, about the search.55-year-old Kurt Brimberry vanished on Saturday, after he crashed his car on a country road near Alisal Guest Ranch.Since then, search and rescue teams have been looking for any clues to his whereabouts. The man and his family are from San Marino in Southern California.They were in the area on vacation.His son says he never expected he’d be returning home without his father. “It’s unusual because we still haven’t found him, and we have very few leads,” says Sgt. Mark Williams, of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.He was staying at the Alisal Guest Ranch in Solvang, along with his family–a vacation they’ve taken together annually for the past fifteen years.Officers were called to the scene of a single car crash in the 25-hundred block of Alisal Road near Nojoqui Park.Brimberry’s car was totalled. His cell phone was still in the front seat. But, he was nowhere to be found.”Deputies searched every place they could think of, so all the local hotels, hospitals, they even checked with county jail to see if he’d gotten picked up, and booked into jail.”Family members, including his son, Kurt Brimberry, Jr. were stunned when they received the news.”Shock is the first thing you feel in a situation like this, followed by a feeling of worry and anxiety.”Shortly after the crash, a passerby reported seeing a man that matched Brimberry’s description, walking along the road, toward Alisal Guest Ranch, away from the crash site. That was the last time anyone has seen Brimberry.His family has its own theories about what happened.”By all indications, he got distracted on the road,” explains Brimberry, Jr.They believe he was disoriented by the crash, and wandered off.Search and rescue crews, including canine units and the county’s air support helicopter, have been searching the area for the past several days.”There was a lot of ground that was covered to think of any possible place Brimberry could be– and no sign of him,” says Williams.His family remains hopeful.”We’re optimistic that he will be found, and returned safely back to the family.Brimberry was last seen wearing blue jeans, a light blue polo shirt and top-sider deck shoes.”If you have any information, you are asked to call (805) 683-2724
