Houck Act
The Ojai mother of two young women killed in a recalled rental car crash is speaking out.Cally Houke is confident a Senate Bill named after her daughters will pass in the next few months.This week major rental car companies agreed to back the legislation that would bar them from renting or selling recalled cars.Eight years ago Raechel and Jacqueline Houck rented a PT Cruiser from Enterprise.Houck says steering problems led to a fiery crash with a big rig that killed her daughters in Monterey County.Cally Houck won a settlement. but is still fighting to prevent other families from losing loved ones.Houck says, “Now they will be part of history and their names will be synonymous with protecting people renting cars. What more can I ask for. I don’t have them, but I have their legacy.”Houck says Senator Barbara Boxer, and Representatives Lois Capps and Elton Gallegly have been a big help.She also credits Rosemary Shahan who she calls the lemon law lady.Shahan is the president of a group called “Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety, ” also known as CARS.CARSShare your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page.
