Flashing Pedestrian Lights Coming to the Waterfront

Santa Barbara’s Historic Landmarks Commission is supporting new, flashing pedestrian crossing lights along the Santa Barbara Waterfront. The commission recommends some minor design modifications before the lights are installed, but no major project delays are expected, according to city transportation officials..They are proposed for Cabrillo Boulevard at Chapala, Bath and Corona Del Mar.The lights would be activated by a pedestrian and blink in a pulsating mode to catch the attention of drivers. This area has a high vehicle count, many pedestrians and on going safety concerns. The lights should be in by this fall. They will be solar powered.
