Cal Lutheran University Freshman Service Project
School hasn’t started and already Cal Lutheran students are helping the greater community. It’s part of a freshman tradition called “You Got Served.”Today about 600 incoming students were bused from Thousand Oaks to the Ventura Harbor. They spent a couple hours pulling out Ice plants that have invaded the Ventura Harbor Wetlands. The ponds are a popular spot for bird watchers, but everywhere you look there are non native Ice plants growing.Students made a dent in the problem by pulling the plants out and piling them up.Once the plants dry out they won’t be able to take hold again. They also spread the area with wild flower seeds.Students say they were happy to help the environment. They also say it gave them a change to get to know their new classmates. Classes start tomorrow.KEY News will have more details at 5, 6 and 6:30 p.m.Share your comments about this story with us on the KEY News Facebook page. Connect with KEY News on Twitter
