SOLVANG, Calif. - The Santa Ynez Valley Rotary Club has canceled the 2020 Fourth of July Fireworks Festival.

"The decision was made due to concerns about public safety, social distancing, crowd management and uncertainty as to when large public gathering restrictions will be removed during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," the Rotary Club said in a news release.

The Rotary Club now plans to focus on the 2021 celebration and will continue working to help out those in need during this difficult time.

"We look forward to the time we can all get together again and celebrate all the things that make the Santa Ynez Valley such a special community."

The Santa Ynez Valley fireworks show is the latest Independence Day event to be canceled. Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Pismo Beach have already announced cancellations of their yearly events.

Earlier on Thursday, the California Mid-State Fair was canceled. It was announced on the same day that the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo was supposed to begin - that event has been pushed back to September.
