Cottage Health administers 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine to young teen

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cottage Health announced it has reached another pandemic milestone: administering its 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.

This total includes both first and second doses.

Cottage said 14-year-old Nancy Felix was the lucky recipient of the 100,000th dose at the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital drive-in clinic. She received a gift basket and was cheered on by hospital staff.

Cottage began offering vaccines at its Goleta Valley campus on January 15 and administered about 500 doses that day.

Now, Cottage said it is giving out more than 2,000 doses per day at the weekly clinic.

Those eligible for the vaccine include children ages 12 and up thanks to the CDC and FDA's approval of the Pfizer vaccine for young teens earlier this month.

At this time, Pfizer is the only vaccine authorized by the FDA for those under 18 years old.

Cottage said it gave more than 300 young teens their first dose of the COVID vaccine on May 12, the day immediately after it was authorized.
