Looking for the Helpers: Act of kindness inspires others

As our area is faced with ongoing changes due to a growing pandemic, we are bringing stories of people doing good in the community during a time of uncertainty.

Help us look for the helpers!

Artist Helps Make a Home

A NewsChannel viewer saw our story about a local organization helping the homeless, and stepped up to offer her talents.

Adam's Angels, started by local resident Adam McKaig during the pandemic, has been feeding and clothing the homeless at Alameda Park every week.

One of the homeless women, Lindsey, secured housing but didn't have any furnishings. So McKaig, got her everything she needed to move in.

But, McKaig mentioned during his interview that Lindsey didn't "have any art for her walls."

Local artist Marcella Poitras was watching the segment and then reached out to McKaig.

Poitras painted a picture and had it framed, then gave it to Lindsey.

It's now hanging in her apartment.

"Lindsey was so happy," McKaig said.

Lindsey, who was homeless for many years, is now living in her new apartment and volunteering with Adam's Angels.
