The Goleta Valley Library is now offering a check-in service where patrons can receive a call from a librarian to discuss library services or to just have a much needed chat!

GOLETA, Calif. - The Goleta Valley Library announced the launch of a new service called "Check-In with a Librarian" on Friday.

The service, which launches on Friday, is for library patrons who live alone, are feeling lonely, or just need someone new to talk to.

The library said patrons can sign up to receive a phone call from one of the friendly Goleta Valley Library staff members where they can discuss topics from book or movie recommendations, information on online library services, reference questions, or just a general check in to chat!

“The Goleta Valley Library wants the community to continue to explore, study, and read, while the library’s doors are closed. We know how important it is to stay connected during these isolating times, so we are doing as much as we can to continue serving our patrons' needs and to stay close to our community members,” said Library Director Allison Gray.

You can schedule a Check-In with a Librarian online here or by calling (805) 964-7878.

The library has also recently launched a live tech tutoring program and free craft kits for kids.

During a tech tutoring session, library patrons can receive live one-on-one help from a library staff member for troubles involving their laptop, tablet, cell phone, smart TV and more.

Tutoring is available Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment. Each session lasts from 30 to 60 minutes.

Signups for tech help are available online here or by calling (805) 964-7878. Spanish signups are available here.

Patrons with the Goleta Valley, Buellton and Solvang libraries can also sign up to receive free craft kits for their kids.

Craft kit requests can be made online. After filling out a request, the library will deliver a kit of crafts straight to your door.

Some kits require you to provide basic items like glue and crayons, but everything sent is for you and your family to keep.

Households are limited to two craft kits for each of your children per month.

If you are interested in any of the above services but don't have a library card, you can sign up online using the Black Gold eCard Registration webpage.
