Flower Carriage: Business blooming despite increase in flower prices
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Mother’s Day is right around the corner.
Florists in Santa Maria are working around the clock to meet the growing demand in Mother's day sales.
"It’s been very busy. It’s busier this year than last year," said florist Susana Cardel at Flower Carriage.
Florist Julia Friedman believes more people are ordering flowers in light of the pandemic.
"I think so. I think more people are mindful of this Mother’s Day, because of the pandemic. They’re spending more time with family," said florist Julia Friedman at Flower Carriage.
Cardel said even with flowers costing 20 percent more, customers are still buying flowers.
"I’m talking about roses, lilies even the greenery," said Cardel.
While Mother’s Day is usually one of their busiest holidays, workers at the flower shop say business has remained busy throughout the past several months.
And this week they’re starting delivery services earlier than usual to keep up with demand.
"People are still holding back I’m holding off on traveling so they’re still sending stuff that’s why we’re getting so many orders today," said florist Miranda Smith at Flower Carriage.
Managers at the Flower Carriage said this year's most popular flower that’s selling quickly is roses.
"I’m getting roses for my wife and for the first lady of our church," said customer Anthony Burns at Flower Carriage.
The flower shop ordered some 500 flowers.
That’s twice the number of flowers compared to last year.
