SoCal Edison is considering shutting off power to some areas in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Southern California Edison is exploring potential power shutoffs in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties due to increased fire risk.

The utility lists large portions of Santa Barbara County's south coast, as well as inland areas of Ventura County, as being under consideration for public safety power shutoffs.

The consideration comes as both counties face increased fire risk. Red Flag Warnings, indicating high winds and dangerous fire conditions, have already been issued by the National Weather Service for both counties. Several fires have already sparked in our area on Monday.

The power shutoffs could take place beginning Monday night at 8 p.m. and remain in effect into Tuesday morning. More than 200,000 customers could be affected.

Pacific Gas and Electric, which services most of San Luis Obispo County, is not considering shutting off power in the county.
