CARPINTERIA, Calif. - Westerlay Orchids no doubt will be getting an A-plus from the Carpinteria Education Foundation after a recent fundraiser.

Westerlay donated a week of sales from the retail store to help local school kids.

The retail store is open to the public at 3504 Via Real in Carpinteria. The week of August 31 to September 5 was set aside for the special sales event and fundraiser.

The result was a donation of $23,819.

The owners and employees have, for years, had a strong commitment to educational improvements in the area. Many workers have kids in the local schools.

"It is just critical to our community.  We feel very strongly as a company that as members of this community we are obligated to support the community when we can," said Westerlay President Toine Overgaag.

The check was presented Thursday to Carpinteria Education Foundation member Sally Green. She said, "most of our kids have chrome books we saw to that.  They have hot spots. If  you have a family  with three of four children all  doing zoom at the same time that hot spot may not be working  so  this is going to go a long way to helping  make sure all kids in Carpinteria are learning."

The Education Foundation uses the funds it raises for equipment, technology and other needs to help Carpinteria area students as a supplement to the existing school budget.
