Additional SB County deputy tests positive for COVID-19

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy who was on specialty assignment tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

According to the sheriff's office, a specialty assignment is any assignment other than patrol.

The deputy reportedly began experiencing coronavirus-related symptoms after his last shift on Thursday, Sept. 17.

The deputy was tested in a community facility and did not return to work while awaiting the results.

The sheriff's office said this deputy had limited contact with members of the public while performing his duties, but when he did have contact he wore a mask.

This incident brings the total number of COVID-19 cases among sheriff's office employees to 41. The other 40 cases have fully recovered.
