SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department announced an additional COVID-19 death on Friday.

This person was a resident of Santa Maria who was between the ages of 18-29.

The young adult had an underlying health condition, public health officials said.

They were not associated with a shared living or care facility.

A death is reported as a coronavirus death when a death certificate is processed that lists COVID-19 as the cause of death or a significant contributing factor. The process can take a few days or as long as two months to verify.

COVID-19 presents mild or moderate conditions for most people that become infected, but the elderly or people with pre-existing conditions are particularly vulnerable.

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department recommends residents do their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19. That includes wearing a face covering, maintaining physical distance when in public spaces and staying home if you are feeling ill.
