Nine more Santa Barbara County inmates test positive for COVID-19

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office reported that nine more inmates at the main jail have tested positive for COVID-19.

These inmates were tested as part of a sweeping group test of over 450 individuals within the jail. Their positive test results came back Friday.

The Sheriff's Office said all nine of the positive-testing inmates are being monitored by custody and medical staff regularly.

These inmates bring the total number of COVID-19 cases at the county jail to 81. As of Friday, 41 cases are active, 28 inmates have recovered from the virus and one person has passed away. One more inmate who tested positive has been released back into the community.

The Sheriff's Office said it is still waiting for 30 more test results from its sweeping COVID-19 testings.
