Additional Santa Barbara County jail inmate tests positive for COVID-19

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - An additional inmate at the Santa Barbara County Jail has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases at the jail to 41.

This person was tested after they were in contact with another inmate who had previously tested positive for the disease. Results of this inmate's test were received Tuesday night.

This inmate has been in isolation since Sunday after they began exhibiting symptoms, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said. They remain quarantined in a negative pressure cell and are receiving medical checkups.

There have been 41 cases of COVID-19 at the jail. 11 cases are active and 23 inmates are considered recovered.

Six inmates who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 have been released.

Earlier this month, an inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was treated and released from the hospital was found dead inside his cell.
