Santa Barbara County reports 130th COVID-19 death

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department recorded a new coronavirus-related death Wednesday.

This is the 130th COVID-19 death reported in Santa Barbara County since the pandemic began.

The public health department said this person lived in the Mission Canyon area near Santa Barbara. They were between the ages of 50-69 and had underlying health conditions, public health said. This person was not associated with a congregate living facility.

A death is considered to be coronavirus related when a death certificate is processed that lists COVID-19 as the cause of death or a significant contributing factor in the death. The process can take days to weeks to verify through the coroner's office.
