St. Mary’s School of the Assumption: Students “happier” since returning to campus during COVID-19 pandemic

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - It has been about a week since the reopening of Saint Mary's School of the Assumption during the coronavirus pandemic.

Overall staff and students say they are glad to be back on campus.

Students are currently seated four feet apart in the classroom.

Other new guidelines include students having daily temperature checks, maintaining a four feet distance between desks and face coverings.

Principal Michelle Cox of Saint Mary's School of the Assumption says when students start to become too close to others, they have been very good about reminding one another to keep a physical distance.

During the first day of school, Cox said the morning drop-off was slightly delayed with temperature checks and other health procedures implemented into the daily routine.

Since then, she says drop-offs have improved dramatically.

Parent Margarita Arriaga says her six-year-old son has become "happier" since his return to school.
