Santa Barbara Humane Society: Pet adoption at record high 90 percent since COVID-19 outbreak

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Vet specialists with the Santa Barbara Humane Society say shelters are typically crowded with pets in need of a home throughout the year.

But since the Coronavirus pandemic, the number of pets being adopted out in the north and south campus shelters are up by 90 percent, a record high in the last 10 years.

Veterinarian Katie Marrie with the Santa Barbara Humane Society says more people are adopting pets during the stay at home order.

During the past two weeks, Marrie says more than 100 pets have been adopted out.
