COVID-19: Santa Maria Police Department reports first violent crime since coronavirus outbreak

SANTA MARIA, Calif. The Santa Maria Police Department reported the first violent crime in the city since the coronavirus outbreak.

Officers responded to an attempted stabbing Wednesday evening.

Lt. Russell Mengel with the police department says call volume had dropped by 50 percent since the first few weeks of the virus outbreak. However, this week call volume has risen by 75 percent.
