High Surf & High Tides Impacting Beach Side of Port Hueneme

High surf and high tides spell more trouble for folks in Port Hueneme. Work crews began emergency shoreline protection work early Tuesday morning.

A large section of the seawall and part of the sidewalk on the beach side of Surfside Drive have collapsed.

City officials fear high tides expected Monday night and could destroy parts of the drive itself.

The pier has all ready lost four structural pilings.

The city received an emergency permit from the California Coastal Commission to do repairs and protect the coastline.

Mayor Jonathon Sharkey says it took too long to get approval and accuses the commission of bureaucratic incompetence.
