| Why are you running for office?: | Many residents have approached me and voiced their concern about the City’s current direction. I am running primarily because many community members have asked me to do so. They want someone to stand up for them and for our common values. I am also running because I believe we must all do what I can to make our community a better place to live |
| What makes you qualified for the job?: | I have been a resident of Morro Bay for over 18 years. During that time, I have worked both privately and publicly to better our community. I have served the City as a planning commissioner and as a member of the WRF Advisory Committee. I am also deeply involved in working to help feed and deliver food to our community residents. I have worked extensively with Home Supportive Services to assist our community members who are in need of help |
| What are your two main priorities if you win?: | 1. Fiscal responsibility. City government must rein in spending and achieve a truly balanced budget – something that the City does not currently have. The practices of moving money around and borrowing from one fund to cover deficits in another must stop. 2. Accountability and transparency: City officials must take to heart the old saying, “The buck stops here,” and take responsibility for their actions. They must be open and honest with residents. Our current Morro Bay City government has far too many closed session meetings. The Council makes far too many decisions without involving residents and, in many cases, without even informing them. |
| How will you interact with other governments?: | I believe that establishing closer and more cooperative relationships with other communities will benefit everyone. If Morro Bay officials had been willing to work cooperatively with Cayucos, we might now be sharing in the benefits of their exemplary sewer plant project, which will end up costing that community under $30 million. Contrast that with Morro Bay’s out-of-control $130 million project |
| What are your plans to help overcome COVID-19?: | I will continue to support the protective measures recommended by health professionals, and to encourage others to do the same. I would prioritize the urgent need to repair the North Main Street sewer main that has been proven to be leaking sewage into the Morro Basin drinking water aquifer. I would demand tests for COVID-19 virus presence in the city's drinking water supply. |
| Which two issues are most important to you?: | My top two issues are affordability and quality of life for our residents, and stronger support for our businesses, the economic engine of Morro Bay. To ensure that our residents can enjoy our community to the fullest, we must rein in spending, regulate vacation rentals in our neighborhoods, and improve city services. To help our businesses through these difficult times and beyond, we must maintain close ties to our business owners and be more responsive to their needs |
